In the massive anime and manga series One Piece, the ultimate goal of the story is for the protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, to find the legendary treasure known as the One Piece and become the King of the Pirates.

However, “the goal” changes depending on whether you look at the main treasure, Luffy’s hidden dream, or the individual ambitions of his crew. The Main Objective: Finding the One Piece

The One Piece is a mysterious, physical treasure left behind by the late Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, on the final island of the Grand Line, Laugh Tale.

The Reward: Whoever finds it will claim the title of the next Pirate King and gain unparalleled fame, wealth, and power.

The Requirement: To locate it, a pirate crew must find and decipher four massive red stone monuments called Road Poneglyphs, which reveal the coordinates to Laugh Tale. Luffy’s Hidden True Goal

While Luffy constantly shouts that he will become the Pirate King, the story has revealed that achieving this title is actually just a stepping stone.

The Secret Dream: Luffy has a deeper, secret goal that he has only shared with his brothers (Ace and Sabo) and his crew. The audience does not yet know the exact words, but whenever he says it, people either laugh in disbelief or are completely shocked.

The Theme of Freedom: Popular community discussions on platforms like the One Piece Reddit Community suggest his true dream is to host a massive, worldwide feast or to achieve a level of absolute freedom where he can share that freedom with everyone. To Luffy, the Pirate King is simply the person with the most freedom in the entire world. Individual Goals of the Straw Hat Crew

The overarching goal of the series is also propelled by Luffy’s crewmates, the Straw Hat Pirates, who each joined the crew to fulfill their own lifelong dreams:

Roronoa Zoro: To defeat Dracule Mihawk and become the World’s Strongest Swordsman.

Nami: To navigate the entire globe and draw the first complete map of the world.

Usopp: To overcome his cowardice and become a brave warrior of the sea.

Sanji: To discover the All Blue, a mythical ocean where fish from all four seas coexist.

Tony Tony Chopper: To become a doctor capable of curing any disease.

Nico Robin: To find the Rio Poneglyph and uncover the true history of the Void Century.

Franky: To build a dream ship (the Thousand Sunny) and watch it sail to the ends of the earth.

Brook: To sail around the world and fulfill a promise to reunite with Laboon, a giant whale left behind at the start of the Grand Line.

Jinbe: To break down the hatred between humans and fish-men, achieving true racial equality.
